Welcome to North Dakota!

Welcome to the story of my road trip through the Dakotas this summer!

It all started when the proprietor of my favorite on-line store Shakespeare's Peddler decided to hold summer "stitching retreats" for her customers. In Fargo, North Dakota. Now, despite wondering if people really *lived* there (and some of my friends are STILL skeptical), the retreats looked like a lot of fun - get to meet new people, see a new part of the country, and get in some quality stitching time to boot. So, I talked my best bud Carrie into going with me, and away we went.

Now, Carrie is even more adventurous than me, and decided she wanted to see Mt. Rushmore on this trip. You probably don't have a map handy, but I can tell you that Mt. Rushmore is NOWHERE close to Fargo. Given our limited time off and a few definite time commitments, we quickly figured there was no way to make it there and back. But, since we still wanted to see some of the country, we decided we would fly to Minneapolis, rent a car, and drive to Fargo, by way of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It helped that it was cheaper to fly to Minneapolis than Fargo, but we quickly offset that by deciding to rent a beautiful, silver 2000 Mustang convertible. Whoops. But look at that. Do cars get much more fun than this?

Our Car!

So, we landed in Minneapolis bright and early on Thursday morning, begged and pleaded with the guy behind the Hertz counter to actually rent us the convertible we wanted, and we were off! A whole five miles down the road to the
